Bush Vetoes Bill to Expand
BUSH VETOED A BILL that would have dramatically expanded children's health insurance. It's the fourth veto of his presidency, and one that Republicans fear could carry risks in next year's elections.
Democrats in Congress vowed to try to override the veto, though it appears unlikely that the House will have the necessary two-thirds support to do so. While House Democrats say they are within about 13 to 15 votes of being able to override the veto, top Republicans in the chamber say they are confident they will be able to stop the effort. i dont understand this move... anyone care to explain?
Well not exactly sure Max. The only reasonable explanation i thought of, was, that there are tons and tons of people who use tobacco that would be really ticked off if taxes were raised. They would anger those voters who use tobacco and were (as in voters) are that stupid and wont forget about that every time they go to the counter to purchase stogies, smokes, or smokeless tobacco. Thats what i thought an explanation might be.
this is a perfect example of why things don't work in our government.
the president issues a veto on a bill, and instead of working with the president saying "ok, what do we need to do to make this work?" they immediately just get cocky and say, "well then we'll just override it."
its not even about the bill or what the bill is. they just want to use this as another excuse to attack bush. if the bill had passed, no one would have ever mentioned anything. its terrible to see that a bill that had at least "potential"(i know really nothing about it, so i'll just say that) to just end up dead, and the american people just get the same old "screw you, image is more important to us" or the "don't blame me, blame him" routine.
You'd think he'd want to pass this bill so his GOP cronies would have a new, healthy batch of kids to sacrifice in some other useless future conflict.
